Deep Tissue Massage - Myofascial release is a manipulative treatment that attempts to release tension in the fascia due to trauma, posture, or inflammation.
What’s fascia? It’s a connective tissue which surrounds the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs of the body. Points of restriction in the fascia can place a great deal of pressure on nerves and muscles causing chronic pain.
By employing a particular deep and firm kind of touch, the extent is to feel the restrictions of the fascia with the aim of:
- Releasing the tension that prevent the body structure to get a better balance
- Improving joint range of motion in order to relieve pain and increasing the efficiency of movement of the whole body.
This is a gentle, non-invasive manual technique that assists lymph flow, enhances recovery and aids in drainage of tissues. MLD affects the nervous system by lowering sympathetic tonus. In so doing, it stimulates the contraction of smooth muscles in lymph vessels, helping to move the lymph forward and draining the connective tissue. It can also help a patient with chronic illness by allowing their parasympathetic nervous system to predominate. It may also affect the immune system by assisting lymph flow and bringing pathogens quicker to the lymph nodes where they can be neutralized.
MLD can be utilized in the treatment of many different conditions including: Primary and Secondary Lymphedema, Venous insufficiency, Non-infected inflammatory conditions (e.g. sprains and strains), Ulceration, Dermatological conditions, Circulatory disturbances, Sports injuries, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), Burns, Pre- and post- plastic surgery.
Reflexology is a form of natural and holistic therapy based on the discovery that there are points on the feet and hands which correspond to organs, systems and structures within the entire body; this corresponding relationship is called a “reflex”. By using special pressure techniques to stimulate the points on the feet and hands, imbalances in the tissues, organs and systems of the body can be both detected and effectively treated to restore balance and well-being.
Reflexology does not diagnose diseases nor attempt to treat or cure specific medical conditions.
The existence of reflex relationship is well established in medical science in the physiology of the human body. They include: reflex of the nerve stimulation for ex. when an area of the skin senses too much heat, the reflex response described by Pavlov when the behaviors of a person can become way to a particular stimulus, the reflex relationship of internal organs and skin via the dermatomes and segments of the spinal nerves, the reflex relationship involved in proprioception when the pressure of the skin and muscles in the course of movement gives the body information about its position and balance in space and the response is to constantly adjust its position and balance.
This work increases the awareness of the body and the Self in movement in the space.
It is inspired by Unfold Technique developed by Valentina Bordenave (Alexander Technique Teacher and Dancer). Her work is based on and uses the Alexander Technique and applies the principles on movement - dance - improvisation.
It includes three sections: organization, coordination and improvisation.
The person receiving this technique can expect a more "passive" time during the one to one session and more "active time" when the principles are applied to movement in the space.
This work is about educating and improving the awareness of the use of the Self, means the whole physical-psychological-spiritual aspects of ourselves. More attention to our use means more awareness about different body parts communicating among them. When this communication is awakened and we are able to understand where there is interference, then the functioning and movement is more natural, organic, whole, light and ready to react (powerful). Such conditions can change our own creativity.
